Are you looking for a resource to teach your high school students about strong and weak acids and bases? This resource may be the answer! It is designed to provide your students with the chance to:
1. Read a passage and learn about the properties of strong acids, strong bases, weak acids, and weak bases.
2. Calculate the pH, H, pOH, OH ion concentrations, as well as Ka and Kb of acids and bases.
***Please see the preview to check sample worksheets, list of materials, and further details ***
The resource includes:
- Strong and Weak Acids and Bases Reading Sheet ( 1 page )
- Post Reading Worksheet ( 1 page )
- Strong Acids And Strong Bases Calculations ( 2 pages )
- Weak Acids And Weak Bases Calculations ( 2 pages )
- Answer Keys
- Teacher Guide
The resource can be easily integrated into your existing teaching materials, used as a stand-alone, or even as a review at the end of the unit.

Part 1: Strong and Weak Acids and Bases Reading Sheet
In this section, students will learn about the characteristics that distinguish a strong acid from a weak acid and a strong base from a weak base. They will learn the terms ionization and dissociation in relation to acids and bases, plus more. After the reading, they will complete a worksheet with the information they read.
Part 2: Strong Acids And Strong Bases Calculations
In this section, students will complete some calculation questions involving pH, pOH, [H⁺], and [OH⁻] of strong acids and strong bases. This may be used as a way to evaluate students’ comprehension after the topic has been well taught, or as a practice exercise or homework.
Part 3: Weak Acids And Weak Bases Calculations
In this section, students will complete some calculation questions involving pH, pOH, [H⁺], and [OH⁻] of weak acids and weak bases. Just like in part 5, this may be used to evaluate students after the topic has been taught.
I believe this acid-base resource will be a valuable addition to your teaching toolbox. It will help your students understand the key differences between strong and weak acids and bases and how they dissociate or ionize in water. It takes little to no prep time, which saves the teacher some valuable time.
I have included the answer key to all worksheets. See the preview.
