DESCRIPTION:

Are you looking for fresh ideas to engage your students on specific heat capacity? This resource may be the answer. It will provide your students the opportunity to:

1) learn some common applications of specific heat capacity in daily life.

2) solve calculation questions.

3) use temperature data of oil and water to draw a graph and

4) make predictions.

***Please see the preview for sample worksheets and answer keys ***

The resources include:

  • Car Engine Coolant: Water or Oil? Version 1
  • Car Engine Coolant: Water or Oil? Version 2 (FREE Real Experiment )
  • SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY APPLICATION Worksheet ( colored and B&W )
  • SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY QUESTIONS Worksheet
  • Answer Key

Part 1: Car Engine Coolant

In this part, students will use temperature data from oil and water to draw a graph. They will determine which liquid has a higher or lower specific heat capacity. Based on the results, they will suggest which of the two liquids may be suitable as an engine coolant.

I have included a BONUS version where students can do the lab and collect the temperature data by themselves.

Part 2: SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY APPLICATION

In this part, students will match substances to their applications related to their specific heat capacities.

Part 3: SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY QUESTIONS

In this part, students will complete four calculation questions involving specific heat capacity.

I have included the answer key to all worksheets. See preview.

***The worksheets can be used as stand-alone or with your existing resource.***
