Description

Are you looking for a fresh and engaging way to teach Photosynthesis? This resource might just be what you need. It will provide your students the opportunity to:

  • Read about the process and significance of photosynthesis
  • Learn about light-dependent and independent reactions
  • Understand the inputs and outputs of both reactions
  • Make a foldable booklet about photosynthesis

****Please see preview for sample sheets ***

Part 1: Making Food from Light: Photosynthesis Reading

In this part, students will read a comprehension passage and answer questions relating to light-dependent and independent stages of photosynthesis. In the accompanying worksheet, students answer questions and complete a cut-and-paste photosynthesis diagram. I have included an easel version for online learning. ( Answer key is included )

Part 2: INQUIRY LAB

In this part, students investigate the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis. There are two versions (options) to choose from:

  • Virtual Lab: Students will investigate the driving question in a virtual simulation. I have included a link and a QR Code to a free easy-to-use website for students to do the lab.

  • Hands-on Lab: Students will complete the investigation in the lab. This option requires elodea or other pond weeds. I have included a full list of materials needed and a step-by-step procedure on how to set up the lab for both teachers and students. Students will observe, record, and count oxygen bubbles as they change light intensity (virtual lab) or distance from pond weed (physical lab). They will represent their data on a graph and make their conclusions.

OPTIONAL EXTENSION: Foldable Booklet

In this activity, students will create a foldable booklet. Students will discuss and research answers to questions on the cover page and write answers on the inner page. Samples of finished work can be seen in the preview. I have included an easel version for this activity as well. Easel version is not foldable )
